Covid-19 really makes an impact on everyone, with the new normal like working from home, restriction movement order rules that keep changing anytime based on the situation, and of course the change in lifestyle. Because I'm mostly staying at home, so I try to find some new hobbies and activities to make myself still productive. This is to help me to keep healthy in body, mind, and soul.
I want to share some of good positive activities that I've been doing in this pandemic time:
1. Regular meditation. My friend introduced me to an app called Calm and I find this app is really helpful for meditation. It has some programs like "7 Days of Calm", "7 Days of Sleep", "7 Days of Calming Anxiety" and other things. The calming background natural sounds and the instructor's gentle voice is really good to make myself relax. Normally I use it before I sleep, it does help me to fall asleep easily.
2. Start to learn to play piano. I bought a keyboard piano exactly before the quarantine period. I researched some good online courses that can help on learning piano, and I found an app named SimplyPiano. Surprisingly it's a really good app, especially for a newbie like me. It has a feature to connect the keyboard piano to the phone for MIDI detection, so it can detect whether I hit the right note.3. Home workout. Can't go to the gym, can't go out from home, and sometimes the public park is closed. So I bought some home workout kits and decided to utilize one of my vacant rooms become a gym room. I also enroll for an annual online program membership in the Freeletics app. They have a lot of programs, starting from easy to hardcore.
4. Learn how to cook. I start to learn how to cook by watching YouTube, especially Indonesian foods and other simple foods. I also bought a mixer and oven to bake cookies. I'm quite proud of myself, it's edible and quite tasty. And most importantly, it's home cooked by me.
5. Small gardening in my balcony. I plant some edible plants like chili, okra, mint, long bean, spring onion, lemon grass, and rosemary. I also grow some easy-to-manage flowers like Japanese rose and money plants. My colleague has the same hobby, she gave me some seeds and plants like edamame and basil. I think it's really a good activity and can make me occupied and relaxed. It's fulfilling, especially when the plants produce the outcome.
6. Online study and certification program. I enroll in some online study and certification. I managed to complete courses and get certification in:
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamental (AZ-900). Fundamental knowledge on cloud technology using Microsoft Azure.
- Microsoft Certified: Designing and Implementing a Data Science Solution on Azure (DP-100). Focusing on data science solutioning by using Azure Machine Learning (ML) service to create statistical models with algorithm modules, train models, and deploy it into an endpoint for predictions.
- Certified AgilityHealth Facilitator (AHF). Certification to help facilitate assessment to measure team’s maturity on Agile implementation and retrospective to capture growth plan using AgilityHealth platform.
- Certified SAFe 5 Program Consultant (SPC). Certification for change agents who leads all levels of an organization through a Lean-Agile transformation at scale by training, coaching, facilitating, and mentoring Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
7. Travel locally, #CutiCutiMalaysia. Because we're still closing the country border, so I really can't travel abroad. When the movement control order is a bit relaxed and we're allowed to travel between states within the county, I do travel locally to explore Malaysia. There are some places that I wanted to go but never got a chance to visit, and now it's a good time. I managed to go to Sekinchan and Sky Mirror in Selangor, Rainbow Waterfall in Pahang, food hunting in Teluk Intan and fly to Langkawi island.
First time flying after such a long time in August, I experienced how empty and quiet the airport was.
I feel so great to be able to see this cloud formation from above when flying to Langkawi.
Other than the above activities, I watch Netflix series and play my PS4 or Nintendo Switch more often compared than before.
